Senior R&D Scientist – Industrial Chemicals

This person will oversee the testing of physical attributes, stability and performance of products, while maintaining quality and economic standards as marketed through North America Chemicals and International distribution. The Industrial Chemical Team works to develop degreasers, drain products, parts washing fluids, cleaners and disinfectants, soaps, deodorizers and air fresheners. Responsibilities: 

  • DEVELOP formulas, product specifications/profiles, and processing parameters for new industrial chemicals. 

  • GENERATE new product ideas and process improvements. 

  • OVERSEE the testing of physical attributes, stability performance, and cost comparisons of products. 

  • DEFINE, IMPLEMENT, EVALUATE and APPROVE lab processes, testing procedures, new raw materials, and suppliers. 

  • MAINTAIN instruments in calibrated condition and manage lab supply/inventory. 

  • COORDINATE field trial testing and seek customer feedback. 

  • COLLABORATE with internal and external customers to evaluate new or existing products/programs, address technical inquires, and troubleshoot complaints or process issues. 

  • RECOGNIZE early failures and discuss with program leader(s). 

  • COLLECT and REPORT data to program leader(s) and assist in preparation of reports/presentations. 

  • PROVIDE technical information, presentations and training to sales staff, customers and industry groups. 

  • MAINTAIN company resources via vendors, conferences, and trade networks. 

  • WORK CROSS-FUNCTIONALLY with other formulation groups (Lubricants, Water, etc.). 

  • ENSURE quality and regulatory compliance with economic standards as marketed through domestic and global distribution. 

  • MAINTAIN database for technical product information, ISO procedures, and quality records for the department. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Chemistry degree or other related science degree 

  • 5+ years practical laboratory experience in an industrial laboratory preferred   

  • A self-starter with proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills 

  • Project management experience 

  • Working knowledge of ISO, EPA, GMP, GLP, and/or PLM preferred 

  • Proficiency in MS Office 

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal 

  • Quick learner, coachable and adaptable; must be able to retain and apply new information quickly 

  • Strong demonstrated ability to research
