This person will be responsible for preparing and reviewing state/local sales/use tax returns in all states for multiple companies. Responsibilities:

 

  • Review and prepare sales/use tax returns monthly and make sure all returns are filed on time.
  • Assist with Real and Business Personal Property Tax filings.
  • Work closely with the Sales Tax Clerk which includes training the clerk in setting up worksheets, entering amounts from tax runs, properly preparing tax returns, and assistance with responding to tax returns questions or problems.
  • Corresponding with various state’s Tax Departments regarding problems with tax returns and filings/payments.
  • Answering phone inquiries about tax rates and registration numbers from customers, vendors, salesmen, and other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to the following:
    • Issue W9s
    • Sales/Use tax registrations
    • Running monthly sales/use tax summaries/detail reports
    • Bad Debt write off calculations
    • Use tax accruals and assist with monthly journal entries
    • Exemption Certificate updating/maintenance
    • Issue various company resale certificates to our vendors
    • Perform research and respond to taxability issues
    • Assist with sales tax audits
    • Set up online filings/EFT (electronic funds transfers)
    • Assist with special projects and sales tax audits
    • Knowledge of sales tax matrix and nexus analysis

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 3+  years of experience in sales/use tax in multiple states preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate skills in Excel required
  • Knowledge of Vertex,  Oracle and tax research software preferred
  • Self motivated, organized and goal oriented with keen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Solid communication and presentation skills; ability to develop method for presenting information in a simple yet impactful way.
