Associate Scientist - Formulation Chemist

 

We’re seeking a motivated, highly organized, scientific individual who has a passion for the research and development of industrial and institutional products in our Lubrication R&D group. As a Formulation Chemist you will learn to develop grease and lubricant formulas, and then see the formula from its genesis through commercialization. Our team specializes in formulating advanced performance lubrication and fuel additive solutions for every job. We tailor our products for agriculture, bio-mass, pellet mills, construction, fleet, forestry, manufacturing, maritime, mining, oil & gas, and waste & scrap. Responsibilities:

  • Make lab batches according to project requirements.
  • Develop formulas, product specifications, and processing parameters for new products and product improvements.
  • Ensure that Corporate Safety and ISO procedures are followed in area of responsibility.
  • Follow general laboratory procedures and maintain the instruments in area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate new raw materials for cost reduction or regulatory compliance in existing products.
  • Calculate formula costs.
  • Recognize early failures and discuss with program leader.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data to the lab group and assist in presentations.
  • Oversee the testing of physical attributes, stability, and performance of products.
  • Utilize lab software systems to record and reference data.
  • Troubleshoot product non-conformances and ensure quality compliance, both domestically and from International distribution.
  • Develop knowledge of formula ingredient chemistries and properties on a continuous basis.
  • Communicate with Purchasing and Manufacturing teams on project details.
  • Interact with suppliers to stay on top of the latest technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Chemistry, Engineering, or other related science degree
  • A self-starter with proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • 1-3 years practical laboratory experience in an industrial laboratory or equivalent industry setting preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Quick learner, coachable and adaptable; must be able to retain and apply new information quickly
  • Strong demonstrated ability to research
